what Are the Pros and Cons of Having an irrigation master valve?
PROS
- Fail-safe valve
- Greatly reduces any water loss due to a leaky station valve
- If your mainline breaks, the master valve allows the mainline to be repaired without shutting off the water supply
- Can be used in conjunction with a flow sensor and controller that detects flow rate change (Highly Recommended)
CONS
- Leaks can be overlooked when systems run at night
- Stretching and contracting of the pipe can occur leading to mainline pipe failure, especially at higher pressures
- Chances of water hammer can increase if there is a pinhole in the mainline or leak in a zone
